“China’s First Flower Town”: Chencun in Shunde
Chencun Town, located in the alluvial plain of the Pearl River Delta, abuts the Tropic of Cancer. Standing at the confluence of the ChanchengDistrict, PanyuDistrict, and NanhaiDistrict,the town is regarded as the”North Gate” of Shunde.
Through the ages, Chencun remains picturesque all year round, just like a fairyland. Whenever flowers are in full bloom, bridges over the rivers wear a splendid look. Under the bridges, streams flow quietly, highlighting the beauty and fantasy of the water town. Then, time seems to take a rest for some while.
Chencun has a profound history, rich culture, and beautiful scenery. Since ancient times, with a dense population and abundant products, the town has served as a place where merchants gather.
Back in the period of Emperor Wudi of the Han Dynasty more than 2,100 years ago, the flowers of Chencun were sent to the court every year as homage. As early as the period of the Qing Dynasty, there was a literature record that”Seeing in front of Chencun, one’s eyes will be filled with flowers”.
Chencun has an enduring reputation as”China’s First Flower Town” and”Flower Town for thousands of years in Lingnan”.
