争议不断的中国短影音社群平台抖音国际版「TikTok」，近期又掀起一项令人傻眼的新挑战。一项名为「蜡烛学习法」（Candle Study）的TikTok挑战，要求挑战者在蜡烛烧尽前，必须不断地读书，然而这看似能增进学习力的挑战，却被许多教育专家呼吁，不但对学习没有帮助，且会对健康造成危害。
综合外媒报导，这项「蜡烛学习法」的TikTok挑战，顾名思义要求挑战者在开始读书前，需先点燃一个蜡烛，接著便开始一路读书，直到整个蜡烛烧完为止。目前这个奇特的读书方法，在TikTok用户间掀起一阵跟风潮，相关的挑战影片甚至在TikTok上，吸引多达1630多万人次观看。

然而，这乍看之下是种「无害」、彷彿新世代「秉烛夜读」的读书方法，却被不少人指出，若使用的是比较大型的蜡烛，等于需花上数小时的才能停止读书，此外，该挑战也不被多数的教师、教育专家所认同。知名教育专家马斯特森（Anna Masterson）也对此表示，这项学习方法可能不但没成效，且容易导致学生严重的筋疲力尽。
马斯特森指出，由于蜡烛一开始的设计目的，就是尽可能地长时间燃烧，因此这会让学生平均一次花4到6小时的时间，不断将精力耗费在读书直至蜡烛烧尽，甚至还有TikTok网友分享连续读了12个小时，「过分疲累会导致丧失乐趣、动力和记忆力，以及认知功能下降，这一切都对学生的学习过程和整体健康有害」。
另外，马斯特森也提到，蜡烛学习法是一种定时练习的方式，虽然对一些人来说，或许是非常有效的读书方式，但是人类大脑需要适当的、有规律的休息来记住看过的资讯，因此学生们与其用这种读书方法拉长时间，不如用更短的时间、更专注地在学习上面，「另外实际与他人分享和学习，有时会比独自学习还更有帮助」。
